Morning Exercise 7-11-14: Photographer Harry Callahan
Choose an artist and free-associate. Today, Harry Callahan.
Mother and daughter.
Mother and daughter in the world.
Mother and daughter amid the place-less places of the world.
Mother and daughter engulfed by, centered within, conferring meaning upon those place-less places?
The great emptiness filled by just two small, precious lives. Maybe.
Or the two small, precious lives threatened by the great emptiness?
By the blurring, by the dark, by the Law.
No, that’s too dark. These are the heroines, the fixed points, the center of his world.
And — here, look, see — they can be ours, too.
His invitation. His offering.
