Morning Exercise 8-12-14: Word “Ennui”

From the New York Times Learning Network Blog: the word of the day is “ennui.”

ennui •\ˌän-ˈwē\• noun: the feeling of being bored by something tedious

Hello darkness my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again.

Oh, lighten up. Maybe this one is better anyway. (Such a wonderful song.)

There’s flies in the kitchen I can hear ’em there buzzing
And I ain’t done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.

Anyway, we go way, way back. Me and ennui.

(Too bored to continue with this. So just insert here for yourself, if you want, and on the understanding that I don’t really care, a dull description of a scene from someone else’s childhood — so, so tedious to read — it being summer, kids banished from the house and its sanity-saving-or-sanity-stealing TV, trickles of sweat and swarms of gnats, an endless loop of “What do you wanna do? I don’t know: what do you wanna do?”, and time ticking by like this: tick . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .tick . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .tick)
